The preliminary estimates peg the cost of this colossal undertaking at an eyebrow-raising $301 million. Dubbed Mactan World Resorts, this luxurious haven will rise on the scenic Mactan Island, specifically in the bustling Lapu-Lapu City. Imagine an oasis comprising a world-class hotel, a dazzling casino, and a plethora of top-notch entertainment facilities, all seamlessly woven into one.
TIHGI’s game plan is crystal clear—fortify its local footprint, rerouting the curious eyes of global wanderers toward its properties. Drawing parallels with its flagship establishment, Newport World Resorts in Metro Manila’s Entertainment City, the company harbors high hopes of repeating its collective success in Mactan Newtown.
For the uninitiated, Newport World Resorts, formerly recognized as Resorts World Manila, chalked its name in history as the inaugural and largest integrated resort in the Philippines.
TIHGI Eyes a Jackpot in the Philippines’ Second-Most-Busy Tourist Hotspot
Back in 2023, TIHGI bet big by submitting a license application to develop and operate an integrated resort casino within the inviting precincts of Mactan Newtown, setting the wheels in motion for this grand project. According to the company’s calculated timeline, construction of Mactan World Resorts is expected to wrap up by 2026.
Experts surmise that this gleaming resort would contribute significantly to the local economy, akin to a high-stakes jackpot. Projections suggest that Mactan World Resorts could rake in an approximate $4.3 million in property and business taxes within five years of opening its doors.
Illustrating the project’s broader societal impact, Georgina Alvarez, executive director of TIHGI, shared with SunStar Cebu that the resort is slated to generate around 5,000 new jobs.
Adding to its allure, TIHGI banks on the new property’s prime location, a stone’s throw away from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, to entice an influx of global visitors. Cebu, the second most sought-after destination after Manila, kindles a spark of optimism for the future of Mactan World Resorts.
