Elevators are the lifeline of any towering structure, especially in the glitzy high-rise haven that is Las Vegas. But, oh the tumult when these vertical shuttles falter! Picture this: You’ve hit the jackpot at the roulette table, your pockets are jingling with winnings, but alas, the journey back to your 9th-floor suite at Oyo Hotel & Casino Las Vegas turns into an odyssey reminiscent of a Greek tragedy. Yes, that’s the bet some guests unwittingly placed and lost when the elevators at this off-Strip venue crapped out.

Elevator Malfunctions at Oyo: Rolling Snake Eyes

The Las Vegas Review-Journal rolled the dice and revealed that guests at Oyo Hotel & Casino Las Vegas turned to Clark County departments to air their grievances over the wonky elevator service. These reports started shuffling in as early as July and continued into September. Picture frustrated patrons swapping stories, each one betting on an elevator that never arrives—like a hand of poker where the deck is perpetually stacked against you.

Guest Reviews: Call & Raise Their Complaints

Scrolling through Tripadvisor is like playing a slot machine—sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss. Unfortunately, for Oyo, the glowing reviews seem to be few and far between. A guest from Chicago, Illinois, lamented, “Elevator was out a whole day. I was on the 9th floor. No one who worked for the casino knew if or when the elevators would be fixed.” It’s the gambler’s worst nightmare: placing your trust in a system that’s gone bust.

Similarly, a customer who graced Oyo earlier this month felt like they’ve drawn a losing hand, mentioning not only elevator issues but also poor casino ventilation and lackluster housekeeping. Such comments are a bad beat for any hotel-casino aiming to stay in the game.

Another traveler from Sarasota, Florida, left a three-star review, noting, “Believe what you read in reviews about the elevator! They only had the service elevator working for all 19 floors.” If Murphy’s Law had a place in the Vegas playbook, it surely found a home here as the guest described how the lone elevator eventually met its maker on a bustling Saturday night. Talk about a bad break.

However, every cloud has a silver lining. This same guest acknowledged that the property was clean, quiet, and offered easy access to the Las Vegas Strip—a small win in what felt like a rigged game. In response, Oyo extended an olive branch, saying, “We apologize that your stay with us did not exceed your expectations. We appreciate your candid feedback.”

Hold Onto Your Hats: The Stakes at Oyo

Nestled at 115 E Tropicana Avenue, Oyo Hotel & Casino offers a veritable smorgasbord of amenities, from plush accommodations to delectable dining and entertainment options. The 30,000-square-foot gaming floor is a gambler’s paradise, featuring everything from roulette and blackjack to slot machines and a William Hill-branded sportsbook. Yet, the allure dims when guests have to bet on an unreliable elevator system.

Elevators may just be common utilitarian structures in high-rise buildings, but in the grandeur of Las Vegas, they can make or break the house. Oyo’s hiccups are serving as a pointed reminder to gamblers and hoteliers alike: Even the smallest cog in a well-oiled machine can make the difference between the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

Next time you’re rolling the dice on a Vegas vacation, it might be worth asking: Are the elevators in good working order? Because no one wants their luck to run out just when it’s time to turn in for the night.
