Twitch and Kick streamer, Félix Lengyel, more popularly known in the online gaming world as “xQc,” has fervently defended himself against accusations of supporting and promoting gambling for his personal gratification and gain. Critics suggest that he opportunistically endorses crypto gambling platforms and casinos to his followers, despite his former professional status in Overwatch.
The Morality Debate – A Ghandi Perspective?
Persistently refuting any ill intentions, xQc has expressed his exasperation at these accusations. Using dismissive terms such as “losers” to describe his critics, he parallels himself with another streamer, Trainwrecks, who has stirred up controversy with his blatantly sexist comments on X (previously known as Twitter) targeted at female streamers and other community members.
From his perspective, the so-called moral brigade is more interested in personal gain rather than genuinely standing up for ethical principles. He insinuates a motive of financial gain or an attempt to hinder his and Trainwrecks’ success.
His fiery comments pose a question: “Do they do this because they want to play the messiah role, to be like Gandhi, and save the world? Or do they crave some form of reward in return for their righteousness? There is no bonus for being morally correct. This idea only reflects ignorance and defeat.”
Reports suggest that xQc has signed non-exclusive contracts with Kick worth $100 million. The recent entry in the streaming platform industry, Kick aims to present a liberal approach to streamed content, especially gambling, following Twitch’s prohibition of gambling content.
Transparent about Making an Honest Living
Throughout his career, xQc has expressed how he “actually enjoys” gambling as a pastime activity, even over playing Overwatch.
More recently, he has been increasingly transparent about his partiality towards gambling, a hobby substantially supported by substantial contractual agreements with gambling firms.
Notably, Trainwrecks and xQc have openly confessed at different times about their financial issues due to gambling. Although promoting a moderate form of responsible gambling, their ties with the gambling industry have deepened over the years.
Speculation suggests that Twitch may face a potential acquisition by Kick’s co-founder Bijan Tehrani who alluded to the possibility earlier this year.
