In a major step towards regulating the online gambling sphere, the Netherlands initiated its digital betting market in October of 2021. This advancement has granted licenced operators within the Dutch borders the legal sanction to cater to local customers. They however, are bound by the Statutory regulations formulated for the industry. In this context, the most recent news comes from the Dutch Gaming Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), which has announced that another operator has been granted permission to provide its services.
On the first day of the week, it was revealed by the regulatory body that the Dutch gambling license has been awarded to Hommerson Amusement BV. This implies that the operator is now legally entitled to provide online games of chance to the Dutch populace.
Even though Hommerson Amusement has secured the license, the domain name that the fresh operator will utilize is still to be confirmed. The KSA disclosed that once the operator notifies them of its chosen domain name, it will be included in its Gambling Guide. This web-based registry mentions all authorized entities offering legal games of chance within the Netherlands’ jurisdiction. For user convenience, the gambling authority has also listed all licenses complete with their trading names and web domains.
The acquirement of the new license adds to the expanding regulated gambling market within the Netherlands. The new sanction positions Hommerson Amusement as the 27th licensed Dutch online gambling service provider.
“The license to offer online games of chance has been granted to Hommerson Amusement BV by the Gaming Authority (Ksa). This permit is the 27th of its kind that the KSA has bestowed,”

Sustained Market Scrutiny by The Gambling Regulator
Apart from license attribution, the Dutch gambling authority also administers compliance. Furthermore, it diligently analyses market dynamics, proposing efficient practices capable of mitigating hazardous and compulsive gambling among Dutch consumers.
In the previous month, the KSA beaconed towards the gambling providers in the Netherlands to reinforce protection measures for their patrons. This appeal came from the regulatory authority’s chairman, René Jansen, who shared particulars regarding a recent investigation into the betting sphere. At the time, Jansen urged licenced gambling providers to implement augmented safeguards to shield their clients from harmful and compulsive gambling.
Furthermore, Jansen highlighted the perils lurking in the shadows of the illicit gambling markets. He restated the fact that unregulated gambling operators do not follow any player safety protocols and are bereft of any obligation towards safeguarding the consumers.
Towards the end of the last month, Prof. Dr. Arnt F.A. Schellekens, the National Reporter on Addictions, proposed 22 measures to overhaul the gambling landscape. The notable changes among these suggestions were obligatory gambling ceilings and enhanced player safety.
