Don Leon, renowned in the Greek Trap music scene, has been arrested due to his alleged participation in a series of ATM thefts. As reported by the Greek City Times, it is believed that the artist was using casinos for legitimizing his unlawfully gained wealth.
Don Leon, who is 28, is said to have been assisted by two other men aged 27 and 26. The trio reportedly utilized explosives and advanced metal-cutting instruments for carrying out the ATM heists nationwide, amassing a total of $770,000. Banking on his stature in the music industry, Leon along with his allies used it to launder money in addition to their casino exploits.
Law enforcement agencies have indicated that the arrested individuals were also engaged in automobile thefts. The stolen vehicles were reportedly used to perform their illicit activities across the nation. Eventually, the law caught up with the culprits in the town of Kifisia, where they were apprehended.
The police managed to capture the gang immediately after they had robbed another ATM, this time in Ermioni. As reported by the Greek City Times, they fled with approximately $215,000 from the ATM.
The authorities were able to confiscate considerable amounts of weapons and explosives during the raid. The haul included around 1.5kg of explosives, a pyrotechnic cord, an M16 assault rifle and various handguns. Furthermore, the police also found a metal cutter and various other gadgets used in the robberies. Along with the confiscated goods, the law enforcement recovered roughly $222,000 in cash.
Further assessments revealed that the confiscated weapons were in violation of Greek firearms regulations. Upon finding certain arms at the residence of a kin of one of the accused, an additional arrest was made.
Don Leon’s Previous Run-Ins With The Law
This isn’t Don Leon’s first brush with the law, as he has been arrested in the past on charges related to gang activities. In 2021, the musician was detained for similar offenses, only to be released on bail in January 2023. He denied all charges against him, according to the Greek City Time’s report.
The task at hand for the police is to continue looking into Leon’s activities and that of his accomplices, believing there is more to their wrongdoing yet to be discovered. The authorities are still trying to piece together the complex network linking organized crime, financial wrongdoing, and the entertainment industry in Greece.
The Greek City Times notes that this incident may prompt a reassessment of the effectiveness of the current legal system given the flamboyant showcase of wealth by Leon.
In the course of their ongoing investigation, Police are also considering the likelihood of Leon’s connections with larger criminal organizations.
