A murder suspect known as Arthur Guty Jr, 55, was taken into custody at the Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino located in Las Vegas. The authorities believe that Guty committed a murder, with the victim being his wife, Nicole Zambrano, in Pennsylvania.
Zambrano, a 26-year-old Venezuelan, was employed as a housekeeper at the prestigious Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. When her colleagues were unable to ascertain her whereabouts after she missed work for three days in the previous week, they raised the alarm. The local police force reached out to Guty for more information.
The suspect’s account of the incident was inconsistent and flawed, which heightened the police’s suspicions. The investigation eventually led them to the discovery of Zambrano’s deceased body at the couple’s home in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, last Monday. Following this grim discovery, the authorities launched a manhunt for Guty.
The suspect was ultimately located in Las Vegas by following the signals from his mobile phone. With the support of local law enforcement, Guty was apprehended after a 12-hour search. At his arrest, Guty was found to have $100,000 cash on his person. Notably, he was apprehended while dining at the hotel’s casino restaurant.
Officials from Pennsylvania have expressed their intent to have Guty extradited so that a thorough investigation into the murder can be held at the location of the offense. His charges, issued by Pennsylvania law enforcement, range from criminal homicide to aggravated assault, though they still need to be formalized.
Authorities Claim Guty Attempted to Flee
The considerable amount of money Guty had on him further substantiates the theory that he was intending to escape. Additionally, his previous interactions with the authorities, where he gave inaccurate information regarding Zambrano’s location, support this supposition.
In a series of conflicting statements, Guty initially claimed that his wife was visiting a friend in Richmond. Later, he stated that she was with him in Florida visiting his father and a dentist, and also in Richmond. He even falsely informed the authorities at one point that she was at the Grand Canyon.
A local resident familiar with the couple, Bob Luick, relayed to local media outlets that Guty had expressed suspicions of Zambrano’s infidelity, with Guty ominously stating he would kill her if it proved true.
A History of Violence
Per various reports, this isn’t the first time Guty has been involved in a dangerous situation. In a seemingly unrelated event, law enforcement uncovered an earlier murder plot against Guty, orchestrated by his former spouse, Roxanne Guty. She had allegedly conspired to hire a hitman while intending to take half of Guty’s life insurance proceeds.
Eventually, Roxanne Guty made a plea deal, resulting in her admitting guilt to reduced charges.
